F.A.Q.

Q. What is MotoTT?
A. MotoTT (Moto Track Time Limited) is located in Taupo and is an independent company established in 2006 by a group of experienced motorcycling enthusiasts to provide professionally run trackdays on a regular basis at the new Taupo Motorsport Park. In 2010 MotoTT also began offering trackdays at the Manfeild race track located in Feilding.

Q. What types of bikes can be ridden on the track?
A. We welcome all types of road bikes, track bikes, race bikes and supermotards. Not permitted on the track are bikes with off-road/knobbly tyres, miniature bikes,
bikes with side-cars, trikes and quads.

How to Book and Pay

Q. How do I book a place at a trackday?
A. Go to the “Bookings” page on this website for information on how to pre-register and reserve a place at a trackday. You have the option of pre-paying or paying on the day.

Pre-paid riders pay a reduced rider fee and have a guaranteed place at a trackday if they happen to arrive by the end of rider registration (around 9.45am on the day). Please note that the prepaid rider fee is non-refundable if the rider does not attend the trackday. The prepaid rider fee is due by the Monday before the trackday.

The pay-on-day riders fee is higher than the pre-paid rider fee and if the rider
chooses not to attend the trackday the rider fee is not forfeited. Please be aware that if the trackday is fully booked we will only hold a pre-registered pay-on-day rider’s spot until the end of the registration period. We will then accept riders who are on our waiting list on the day to fill the places of any no-shows.

Q. What happens if I am not pre-registered and turn up on the day?
A. If the trackday is not fully booked we can offer you a spot on the day.
If the trackday is fully booked we will take your details at registration and you
will then go on to the waiting list. At the end of the registration period we will then
offer vacant spots on the basis of the order of the waiting list.

Q. How can I pay on the day?
A. Cash is required for pay-on-day registrations. We do not accept eftpos or
credit cards. Cheques are only accepted with prior agreement.

Q. Can I get a refund if I pre-pay and don’t turn up on the day?
A. No. Refunds are not given unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Q. Will the trackday be held if it rains?
A. Yes unless the track is unrideable and then the trackday will be rescheduled.

Registration and Scrutineering

Q. Am I required to register on the day?
A. Yes all riders (and pillions) are required to complete and sign a registration form before riding on the track.

Q. What happens at scrutineering time?
A. Your bike and riding gear is checked for safety reasons. Your bike should not have worn tires, worn brake pads, overly loose or too tighter chain or be leaking oil or other fluids. Your steering head and swing arm movement will also be checked. Any glass will be taped. If in doubt have your motorcycle shop check your bike.

Q. What type of riding gear do I need to have?
A. Normal motorcycle road riding safety gear in good condition (helmet, gloves,
boots, jacket, pants) is acceptable. Denim jackets, jeans and sneakers are not
acceptable as riding gear for riders or pillions riding on the track.
Although not mandatory we recommend the wearing of a back protector.

Q. What type of licence do I need to have?
A. A current NZ motorcycle licence or MNZ racing licence or their overseas
equivalent is required.

Groups, Sessions and Riding Time

Q. How many groups are there and how fast can I go?
A. There is no speed limit on the track. You may go as fast or as slow as you
like. However choose a group to ride in that best suits your riding ability.

We normally run four riding groups.
Group 1 is for expert/experienced riders who wish to ride at a fast pace.
Group 2 is for experienced/intermediate riders.
Group 3 is for intermediate riders.
Group 4 is for novice riders or first timers on the track who wish to ride at a
slower pace and not be intimidated by faster riders.

Q. How many riders will there be in a group?
A. Bookings are limited by group maximums. Group 3 is the most popular and for a fully booked trackday may have around 35 riders for the full track.
Group 4 is normally the smallest with around 25 to 30 riders at a fully booked day.

Q. Can I change groups during the day?
A. Yes but subject to space being available in the group. Check at the
registration desk if you wish to change groups.

Q. Can I bring more than one bike to ride on the track and does it cost more?
A. You can ride more than one bike (all bikes are required to be scrutineered) and there is no extra rider fee if you ride in one group. If you wish to ride in more than one group an extra rider fee is applicable.

Q. How long is a riding session for a group?
A. Sessions will last around 20 minutes (approximately 8 -10 laps on the full track). Each group will normally have 5 sessions in the day. If time remains at day end we may run a few extra shorter sessions with combined groups to complete the day. Riding begins at about 9.30am with group 1 out first. We have prize draws during the marshal’s 30 minute lunch break at around 12.30pm and the day ends at 4.30pm. You may ride in excess of 150 km on the track so you may want to start with a full tank.

Q. What kind of help is available if I haven’t been on the track before?
A. If you are unsure of the track layout and lines to ride ask a MotoTT staff member for advice. We have a map of the track and Lines Riders to take
you around the track to familiarize you with riding lines and breaking points.

Track Riding Rules

Q. What are the riding rules for the track day?
A. Information and rules for the next upcoming track day are provided on a separate page on this web-site. The rules for the day will also be posted at the trackday.
All riders are required to read and be familiar with the riding rules for the day.
A rider’s briefing will cover the trackday rules and particular track conditions on
the day. A review will be given before the first session in the afternoon.

Q. When can I pass a slower rider in front of me?
A. You may pass a rider on the left or on the right except where a leading rider is
entering and negotiating a corner where you may not overtake on the inside line.
The most important rule to remember is that a rider in front of you has the right to
hold his or her line at all times and particularly on corners.

Q. What happens when a marshal waves a yellow flag?
A. A bike may have stopped or be off the track. Slow down and be aware of the track conditions. Unless a red flag is deployed the session will continue to its end.

Q. What happens when a marshal waves a red flag?
A. A bike or rider may be lying on the track or the track may have debris or oil on it. Slow down and be aware of the track conditions and leave the track immediately at the exit to pit lane.

Q. Will a red flag end a session?
A. Not necessarily. The group will be restarted for the remaining time of their session if practicable. Riders should reform in the pit lane area whilst the track is cleared.

Q. What happens if I am black flagged?
A. Exit to pit lane immediately. You may have a problem with your bike that you are not aware of or we may need to discuss with you the track rules.

Q. Can I take a pillion on the track?
A. Yes but with prior approval by MotoTT. (Your pillion will be required to sign a
registration form and have a riding gear check). You may also be required to ride at a specific time in group 4 (slower riding group) or group 3 (intermediate).

Bike Set-up, Insurance, Emergency Services, Photography, Food and Fuel

Q. What tyre pressure should I have for track riding?
A. Lower tire pressures than those recommended for road riding help to heat your tires up quickly for track riding. Please feel free to ask for advice at scrutineering or any time during the day about your tyre pressures and any other questions you may have about bike set-up.

Q. Am I covered by my bike insurance whilst riding on the track?
A. Check your policy or ask the question of your insurance provider.
Several insurance companies provide coverage for their customers attending
MotoTT trackdays.

Q. What happens if my bike breaks down or is damaged and I can’t ride home?
A. If you are not able to arrange transport for your bike we will temporarily store your bike and gear for you.

Q. Do you have a photographer at the trackday?
A. Yes a MotoTT sanctioned photographer will be on the circuit during the day and photos will be available for viewing and ordering on our web-site a few days after the trackday.

Q. Will medical help be available at the track?
A. Yes an ambulance and qualified staff will be stationed on-site for the whole day.

Q. Will food and drinks be available at the track?
A. Yes. Hot food and drinks and other snacks will be available all day through on-site vendors. Alcohol is not permitted anywhere within the Taupo and Manfeild motorsport parks.

Q. Where can I fill up with petrol?
A. The nearest service station to the Taupo track is BP Tauhara Rd about 5 km along Broadlands Rd just within the 70 kph area as you enter Taupo. A Mobil service station is located opposite the Rata Street entrance to Manfeild Park.
